FVRL Foundation Receives $515,000 State Capital Grant for New Library in Woodland

Fort Vancouver Regional Library (FVRL) Foundation is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a state capital grant of $515,000 to help support the construction of a new Woodland Community Library building. The grant funds were included in a list of capital improvement projects approved in the 2022 Washington State Supplemental Capital Budget. 

“We are deeply grateful to the legislature and the governor for this generous grant,” noted Rick Smithrud, executive director of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation. “We especially appreciate the support we received from our local representatives, Peter Abbarno and Ed Orcutt, and senator John Braun. Woodland area residents desperately need a larger, more modern library to meet their access to information, technology, and meeting space needs. Currently they are receiving library services in a 2,300 square foot house that is over 100 years old. That house is far too small, has limited accessibility, and cannot provide the meeting space and technology services that Woodland area residents need and deserve.”

This grant will provide a significant boost to ongoing efforts to fund the construction of a new library building in Woodland. FVRL Foundation and the Friends of Woodland Community Library have spent the last eight years partnering with Woodland area businesses and community members to raise funds for the Woodland Library Building Fund.

Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation, FVRLibraries, and the Friends of Woodland Community Library are continuing to pursue additional funding so that construction of the new library can begin.
