Lemony Snicket to Headline Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation’s 2018 Authors & Illustrators Dinner & Silent Auction

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library (FVRL) Foundation is thrilled to announce that Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snicket) will be the keynote speaker for its 2018 Authors & Illustrators Dinner & Silent Auction. Handler, who writes books under both Lemony Snicket and his real name, is best known for his wildly popular collection of A Series of Unfortunate Events books for tweens.

Handler’s A Series of Unfortunate Events books have sold over 60 million copies and been translated into 40 languages. A portion of the series has been made into a full-length movie starring Jim Carrey, Meryl Steep, and Jude Law. In 2017, Netflix began airing a TV adaptation with 45-minute episodes featuring Neil Patrick Harris. Season 2 of the Netflix TV series will begin airing on March 30, 2018. In addition to his Lemony Snicket works, Handler has written several novels for adults and children’s picture books under his real name.

“We are excited to have Daniel Handler as our featured speaker this year. His Lemony Snicket books have entertained millions of children. To hear firsthand how these memorable characters came to life will be inspiring and, I’m sure, most interesting,” noted Rick Smithrud, executive director of FVRL Foundation.

The Authors & Illustrators Dinner & Silent Auction is in its 18th year and is FVRL Foundation’s signature fundraiser. Previous keynote speakers have included former First Lady Laura Bush, John Lithgow, Nicholas Sparks, Diana Gabaldon, Brad Meltzer, and Rebecca Skloot. Proceeds from the fundraiser help underwrite various FVRL programs in southwest Washington.

The 2018 Authors & Illustrators Dinner & Silent Auction will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. FVRL Foundation is currently seeking sponsors and silent auction donations. Columbia Credit Union has confirmed that it will continue its longstanding role as the Presenting Sponsor for this library fundraiser. Ticket sales will be announced in the next few months. Save the date and stay tuned!
